This year, our school community, Public School 91, will join our NYC Council Member Pierina Sanchez's Participatory Budgeting. Our school community has submitted an idea to expand our Healthy Living Initiative.

Este año, nuestra comunidad escolar, la Escuela Pública 91, se unirá al Presupuesto Participativo de nuestra concejal de la Ciudad de Nueva York, Pierina Sánchez. Nuestra comunidad escolar ha presentado una idea para expandir nuestra Iniciativa de Vida Saludable. Necesitaremos el apoyo de nuestra comunidad escolar.

The New York State Education Department and the New York City Department of Education
(NYC DOE) require that HIV/AIDS education be provided for all students in kindergarten through grade 12, as part of comprehensive health education. The HIV/AIDS Curriculum that NYC DOE developed for NYC students is age and developmentally appropriate. For example, in
kindergarten, students learn how people get sick and how to get better. In 7th grade, children
learn how HIV affects the immune system, the risks of alcohol and drug use, and the importance
of communicating with parents/guardians or caregivers.High school lessons teach students to
avoid behaviors that put them at risk for HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and
unintended pregnancy.

This guidance provides best practice considerations for schools for the 2022-2023 school year to help prevent the transmission of COVID-19 among students and staff.
