The 2nd annual "Breakfast with the Orchestra" took place on January 27th at the P.S. 91x's auditorium and it was a colossal success. Not only were the 90+ parents in attendance treated to  a wonderful performance by the P.S. 91x Orchestra, they were also provided with a delightful breakfast at the P.S.91x's cafeteria.

It all started promptly at 8:30 A.M. with the orchestra conducting warm-up routines under the fervent direction of Ms. Raymond. As the orchestra finished their warm-ups and parents cheered with excitement you knew you were in for something special.

The orchestra followed the warm-ups with instrument sectionals. During this part of the concert only one section of the orchestra played at a time. Before each number, Ms. Raymond introduced each section's leader. Mariet Martinez and her Cellos section played "Caribbean Island". It was followed by Jan de La Cruz and the Basses section playing "Take Off". Shortly thereafter, Angelica Feliz and the Violas section played "Olympic High Jump". Lastly, the instrument sectionals portion of the show was brought to a close by the biggest section of the Orchestra ( the Violins). They were divided into 2 sections  ( Violin I and Violin II). Violin I, led by Greisy Penalo, performed "Half Way Down" and Violin II, led by Keisha Lewis, performed "Right Back Up".

After the sectionals concluded and the raucous applause from the large group of proud parents subdued, Ms. Raymond announced the "main event". It was now  the time for the full orchestra to play together!

They proceeded to play "Walking Song", "Morning Dance", "Rolling Along", "Twinkle, Twinkle", and concluded the show with a riveting rendition of Marc Anthony's  "Vivir mi Vida". The orchestra played like a well-oiled machine during all their songs and the audience could not have been any happier. It was stunning to see such a large ensemble of students play with such accuracy and togetherness. Expectations are now sky high for their can't-miss year-end performance.

Following the concert parents got an opportunity to spend time with their children as they were provided with a light breakfast. Music is known to have the power to heal the body, mind, and spirit but at P.S. 91x it also has the power to  bring families together.
