By Mr. Quirion, P.S. 91x
The P.S. 91 student-musicians once again impressed the audience with their talent during the annual Spring Concert. Kicking off Spring Concert week was Kindergarten and 1st grade. Kindergarten started the show with songs about spring and sunshine, singing selections including Mr. Sun, Zipadee Doo Dah, and Big Dreams. First grade finished out the show with songs about health and taking care of your body. Led by Ms. Raymond and dressed like giant water bottles, students sang songs including a traditional Spanish song Mi Cuerpo, Posture Song, Good Habits, and Drink Your Water.
Later in the week was the fourth and fifth grade Spring Concert: I Sing Because I’m Happy. Fourth and fifth graders prepared selections about the power and unifying qualities of music. Led by Mr. Quirion, fourth graders started the show with selections including a Japanese Folk Song Hitori, River Song, Bridge Over Troubled Water, and Count on Me. Fifth grade came next singing songs including Con La Musica, The Water is Wide, What a Wonderful World, and ended the show with Earth, Wind & Fire’s Sing a Song with Mr. Walter playing the Cajon. The Select Choir ended the show with their own beautiful arrangement of Leonard Cohens Hallelujah, and I Sing Because I’m Happy.
Closing out the concert week was the second and third graders singing songs about Spring. Second graders started off with two traditional rounds, Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds, Nature Baby, and ended with Spring Spring Spring. Third graders ended the show with songs about Nature, singing Nature Starts a Song, Blue Skies, and ending the show with Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.
