ULIT Summer Book Fair brings books and big smiles to P.S. 91x students!
By Ms. Jacyszyn, P.S. 91x
Who knew a book fair could rally so much excitement? On June 13th, 14th, and 15th, students in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade were invited to a book fair hosted by the Chancellor’s Universal Literacy Initiative. Students were invited to walk around the fair and pick books of their choice (for free!) that would be theirs to keep. Popular titles, including Fly Guy, Curious George, Frog and Toad and Chrysanthemum, were just a few of the many books available to students.
Parents were also invited to a workshop with Ms. J and Ms. S. Rodriguez to learn about the Universal Literacy Initiative ( ULIT), as well as the Summer Reading Book Fair. They learned about the importance of sustaining reading over the summer. Furthermore, they received resources to help them engage their children in daily reading activities during the months of July and August.
The book fair was a positive experience for both students and staff alike. As a student from Mrs. Flores’ class stated, “Thank you so much for the books! I will read them all summer!” A success indeed!
