Winter Concert warms up P.S. 91X!
By Mr. Quirion, P.S. 91X
Once again the talented student musicians at P.S. 91 shined bright and brought tears to the eyes of parents. Starting off the annual Winter Concerts was the third, fourth, fifth graders, and the Select Choir. Third grade opened the show with a metrically intense and challenging piece, Sing Alleluia! Third grade ended their portion of the show with a satirical piece No School Tomorrow (if it Snows), making sure the audience and teachers know that they will be will not be attending school if it snows!
Next, Fourth grade took the stage with a traditional Yiddish song Tum Balalaika, and ended with an RnB like tune, Candy Cane Lane, singing about the beautiful lights and decorations that flood our city streets during the holidays.
Fifth grade performed a beautiful Jazz Cantate, singing in Latin and English, and ended their part of the concert with Hotta Chocolatta. The Select Choir then wrapped up the show with a hauntingly beautiful setting of Langston Hughes’, The Dream Keeper. As the finale, the Select Choir and entire third, fourth, and fifth grade stood to sing Sara Bareilles’ hit Brave.
