Third Grade Pays Homage to the Arts
By Ms. Bankston, P.S. 91X
On Tuesday, January 30, 2018, the Third Grade Students hosted a student led celebration for their families after working with the program, “Material for the Arts.” MFTA is an organization that accepts donated materials from businesses to help bring the learning of students alive. The program has supported the third grade in literacy by strengthening their background knowledge on major topics and carefully scaffolding activities and projects.
During the conference, students explained how The Material For The Arts program worked and how it connected to what they learned in Social Studies about cultures around the world. They also explained how geography affects various cultures and communities. Families brought popular dishes from their culture, as well.
After the presentation, parents, students, and staff ate delicious food and celebrated together! Congrats to the third grade students and their teachers: Ms. Bankston, Ms. Pincus, Ms. Collado, Ms. Kibbler, Ms. O’Keefe and Ms. Callaghan on a job well done!
