On Thursday, February 1, 2018 the P.S. 91X community celebrated World Read Aloud Day. World Read Aloud Day celebrates the importance of reading aloud and sharing stories while raising awareness of the more than 750 million people worldwide - two-thirds of them women - who lack basic reading and writing skills.

Ms. Mamara shared her love of reading with parents.

The day's festivities began with a Parent Workshop and school-wide inter-grade read aloud. Ms. Mamara discussed the importance of reading aloud with the parents (it can put your child a year ahead of the rest!). She read "Whoever You Are" by Mem Fox in English and Ms. Lachapell read in Spanish.

Captiviting scenes abound as upper grade students read with their lower grade counterparts.

While the parents were in their workshop, the entire school partnered up to share books together. First grade classes partnered with third grade classes, second grade classes partnered with fifth grade classes, and fourth grade classes partnered with kindergarten classes. Afterwards the parents were invited to their child' classroom to share a read aloud with their child and their class.
